About me
Geoff Masters AO is a prominent education scholar specialising in educational measurement, assessment and large‑scale reform. He holds a PhD in educational measurement and from 1998 to August 2024 served as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), transforming it from a largely national body into a globally active research and assessment centre.
He has led major national and international studies (including work on PISA), advised the Australian and state governments on curriculum, assessment and school improvement, and has been a key figure in the development of progressive achievement and learning progressions, writing extensively on learning progress and the purpose of assessment. His contributions have been recognised through numerous honours, including appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia and the International e‑Assessment Association’s Lifetime Contribution Award.
